VHSCREAM is a small independent site. This page describes everything it collects, in plain language, with no dark patterns and nothing buried.
If — and only if — you submit the form on this site, we store:
We do not collect your name or your address book. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising pixels, or any advertising network. Browsing the site without submitting the form stores no record of you on our servers.
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views, so we can tell whether anyone is actually reading this. It is cookieless and it does not build a profile of you: it records the page, the referrer, and coarse device and country information, and it does not store your IP address or any identifier that can be traced back to you across sites or visits. We cannot tell that two visits came from the same person, and neither can Vercel.
We also count a handful of anonymous events — that a tape was shared, that a shared tape was opened, that someone signed up — with no identifier attached. It tells us that a thing happened, never who did it.
If you would rather not be counted at all, any tracker blocker or your browser's Do Not Track setting will stop it, and the site works exactly the same.
Your effects preference (CALM or FULL) is saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers it. It never leaves your device and we cannot read it.
If you use the confirm-or-challenge controls on a work page, your browser also stores a random identifier — a UUID it generates itself. It is not derived from anything about you: not your address, not your device, not your behaviour. It exists for exactly one purpose, which is to stop the same browser voting twice on the same axis, and it is the only thing that travels with a vote.
Marking a score right, too high, or too low sends us four things: which work, which axis, which of the three verdicts, and that random identifier. That is the whole record. We do not store your IP address, your user agent, your location, a referrer, or a timestamp of anything other than the vote itself.
Votes are not published, not attributed, and not shown to other visitors. They are used to decide which work a human re-scores next — a vote never changes a score by itself. Nothing about a vote can be traced back to a person, including by us: the identifier is meaningless outside the browser that made it up.
If you suggest a work the map is missing, we store the title, your note if you wrote one, and your email only if you chose to give it. The label on that field says what it is for and it is the only thing we use it for: telling you what the work scored. It does not sign you up for anything.
Clearing your browser's site data for vhscream.com erases the identifier and the record of what you voted on. Votes already sent are anonymous, so ask us and we will delete them — but be aware that once the identifier is gone, we have no way to find which votes were yours.
We use your address to send you one email a week about horror — films, books, records and objects, ranked against the tape you built. That is the only thing we will ever use it for.
We will not sell your address. We will not rent it, trade it, or hand it to a data broker. We will not add you to any other list.
In a Postgres database hosted by Supabase in the United States. The list is not readable from this website — the browser can add an address and is technically incapable of reading any address back out.
Every email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also write to beaucoseo@gmail.com and ask us to delete your record entirely; we will do it and confirm, and you do not have to give a reason.
If you are in the UK or EU, this is your right to erasure under GDPR. If you are in California, this covers your CCPA deletion and opt-out rights. You are welcome to exercise them wherever you live — we do not think rights should depend on your postcode.
This site is intended for adults and is not directed at anyone under 16.
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we do with your address, we will say so in the newsletter rather than quietly editing this page.
